At the Montessori Creative Learning School (MCLS), we believe that children learn best in a well-organized, beautiful and unthreatening environment.

We believe that the child needs the freedom to experiment, to choose and to satisfy his or her own curiosity within the structure and security of a supervised home.

We use only the highest quality Nienhuis Montessori teaching materials. The Montessori materials are scientifically and artistically designed in a way to enable the child learn from mistakes and successes by themselves.

We teach with adherence to the principles of Dr. Montessori. The teaching through Montessori developed tasks enables the child, after gaining success, to feel confident and motivated to continue learning throughout his or her life.

Mission and Vision of the Montessori Creative Learning School (MCLS)

The Mission of the MCLS is to encourage the child to develop to his or her own maximum potential. We do this by giving him or her the opportunity to explore their curiosity within a structured educational setting.

The MCLS Mission is to provide for and to satisfy the developmental and educational needs of the child. This includes:
  • Helping the child reach maximum potential by giving him or her the opportunity to exercise their natural curiosity and to explore the learning environment.
  • Teaching the child to respect and to work harmoniously with others.
  • Helping the child acquire the joy of learning through materials designed scientifically and beautifully by Dr. Montessori.
  • Allowing the child the freedom to choose his or her own work and space.
  • Helping the child learn to be both independent and to pursue excellence in all areas.
  • Leading the child to the point where he or she will feel peace and confidence in himself or herself.
  • Always keeping in mind that Montessori early childhood education is the foundation for life.
  • Montessori education is learning for life.

The Montessori method of education consists of Practical Life Exercises, Sensorial Exercises, the Language Area, the Math Area, and the Cultural Area.  Each activity is designed to help the child develop through a natural progression of teaching and exercises.

PRACTICAL LIFE EXERCISES:

Practical Life exercises are designed to help the child's self-construction. Through these exercises the child gains a sense of independence.  Through Practical Life exercises, one day the child will be able to combine all the activities he or she has learned then be able to develop their own logical conclusions.  Adults must not give too much or too little direction.

By giving neither too much nor too little help, we can satisfy the child who says. "Help me to help myself." Through repetition of the Practical Life exercises, the child gradually gains control of mind and body, resulting in "self-control." This self-control will lead the child toward independence and normalization.

The Practical Life Exercises offer the child the activities that connect him with the reality of his or her environment.

In the words of Dr. Maria Montessori:  "Follow the child... A child whose needs are satisfied does not care whether something belongs to him or not. What he wants is precisely a sense of satisfaction. " "There is a special secret which enables the children to carry out their practical activities with success It is the precision, the exactness with which the acts must be performed." "A refined and perfect child is capable of entering upon any path that helps to advance. "

SENSORIAL EXERCISES:

Sensorial materials & exercises are the most valuable for the child's intellectual development. It is designed to refine the
child's senses. As a result, the child gains the development of intellectual order, and the
quality of the child's orientation to her environment is improved. Through the activities, the child's memory is being developed by the games. The child gains greater knowledge and sensitivity of the world around him.

The child is being trained to think more clearly. All the sensorial exercises are designed to use the child's sensitive periods to create indirect preparation for subsequent skills and knowledge.

Through the use of manipulative materials, the child absorbs through the senses before being able to understand intellectually.

The child is given the whole bases for understanding mathematics later on.  The child absorbs basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra and geometry through manipulating the mathematically designed materials.

The child's hand is being prepared for writing.

The child is being prepared for art, and for scientific training.

The child is being prepared for nature study by learning to be more keenly aware.  All abstractions rest on concrete experiences.

THE LANGUAGE AREA:

The Language Area curriculum begins with vocabulary development.  Then it progresses through learning to recognize the names of objects in our environment.  From this foundation, the child will progress into reading and writing skills.

THE MATH AREA:

The child will begin to work with activities involving pattern, sequencing, recognition, and formation of numbers (1 - 1000), and the quantity of numbers 1 though 10.

After gaining ability in number recognition, sequencing and formation, the child will progress into the four math operations: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

THE CULTURAL AREA
Science and Geography,  Music and Art
  • The children will learn the basic concepts of the parts of animals, humans, and plants.  They will also learn the basic solar system
  • The children will learn the formation of land and water, as well as the map of the world, the flags of the different countries, and the different cultures.
  • Music and Art are integrated with our daily activities.
